Countdown to the end . . . #7

Vol. 4, No. 21 – May 26, 2019

And I saw a great white throne, and I saw the One who was sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from His presence, but they found no place to hide.  –Revelation 20:11

Did you know that God has judgments (more than one) that we need to recognize? Judgment is a sobering word!

Seven Things We Need to Recognize Regarding God’s Judgments

1 – Judgment frightens us

Judgment frightens us; it is intentional that it should do so. It also gets our attention by arousing our fears.

2 – Judgment sobers us

Judgment sobers us, forcing us to reassess the way we live. It changes our priorities. I have worked with alcoholics and addicts – it is surprising how sober they can get when the judge comes their way. For the one who is drunk in their own course of life, this judgment “thing” should be sobering.

3 – Judgment corrects us

Judgment corrects us, forcing us to face the unpleasant truth about ourselves. We do not like that! Judgment acts as a mirror, reflecting who we are, what we are, and why we are the way we have chosen to be.

4 – Judgment humbles us

Judgment humbles us; forcing us to recognize we are not in control of our circumstances; however, we have a great need for seeking the wisdom and guidance of God. Sadly, too many of us lean on our own understanding. Solomon has a lot to say about that (so did mom and dad).

5 – Judgment reassures us

Judgment reassures us; a paradox that in God’s words, we actually gain comfort. It is not that God relishes judgment; the Lord will rise up . . .  to do His work. His strange work, and perform His task. His alien task (Habakkuk 3:2).

6 – Judgment displays God’s love for us

Judgment displays God’s love—it is the very love of God that makes Him judge! He loves His creation and humanity, He hates sin since sin destroys that which He creates. He must judge to eliminate evil once and for all, to bring His blessings to His creation; His humanity.

7 – Judgment displays God’s severity; His , mercy for us

Judgment displays God’s severity—the effects His mercy. That brings thanksgiving from His own. That brings His child to be under His protection and watchcare. That points to Him as our refuge!

Behold, Jesus is coming soon to take you home to Heaven; His words are faithful and true (Revelation 22:6)

Vol. 4, No. 20  – May 19, 2019

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says . . .  –Revelation 2:29

Churches need to be careful; too often, they operate as if positions, ministries, membership, and even denominations get people to Heaven. That is not what God says. Some are hiding, focusing on self instead of obedience to God.

Seven Categories of People who hide from the Wrath of God

1 – Kings and Queens of the Earth

There are rulers, princes, presidents, dictators, and prime ministers that think they must be all right because of the positions they have accomplished. Not so. Without a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, there is no hope to go to Heaven.

2 – Great Leading People of the Earth

Some are just plain arrogant in their thinking: politicians, educators, institutional leaders, union leaders, merchants, business magnates, all thinking they have “earned privileges.” All are equal before a holy God; no one is above Him. It takes a relationship, not a title or a position. Many of the great leading people of the earth will attempt to argue their way in to Heaven – it will not work.

3 – Wealthy upon the Earth

It is interesting how the wealthy think. Often the wealthy think that because they are so successful, God must favor them. The rich, bankers, Wall Street tycoons, investment brokers, real estate holders, holders of great amounts of gold – what else could speak of approval before Almighty God? Only the first consideration, a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ!

4 – Commanders upon the world scene

Commanders are a special lot. They have tremendous power and resources. When they bark, people listen. They are military giants from every nation and tribe. They hide in their power; however, their power melts as they stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

5 – The Courageous of the Earth

Many men and women are courageous, fearless, and confident. These characteristics are self-imposed; they are self-made men and women. How abrupt will be the response when they stand before Holy God! Man’s strength never equals God’s strength.

6 – The Laboring Class

Well, sure. Working people deserve more! Right? Wrong. Working people are measured the same as every other person before God. It matters not how hard you have worked, thinking you have demonstrated your value to God; what matters is His measurement. You cannot hide behind your work.

7 – The Free People and the Enslaved People

I am free to choose how I believer or even if I want to submit. Yes you are. I am enslaved, others have made it difficult for me to live; I am entitled. You cannot hide from the wrath of God under the rubric of your station in life. It still requires a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Seven categories; we could very well include more in each category. The principle remains that God has already determined the path to Heaven. We can attempt to revise it so that we might hide from His wrath, but we cannot.

Have you heard of God’s last grace effort? It requires your response.

The Scriptures are clear. These have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name (John 20:31).

Where is your relationship to Christ today?

Behold, Jesus is coming soon to take you home to Heaven; His words are faithful and true (Revelation 22:6).

Vol. 4, No. 19

And He who was sitting was like a jasper stone and a sardius in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, like an emerald in appearance.  –Revelation 4:3-4

I have never seen a green rainbow; however, one day I will see one. Green is not the color of a rainbow that appears in our mind – it is usually the primary and secondary colors.

What does a Rainbow Speak of in Scriptures?

1 – A Significant Sign

God said, “This is a sign of the covenant which I am making between Me and you and every living creature that is with you” (Genesis 9:12-16). The rainbow is a sign, a proclamation, that God will never forget His promises. That is significant. How many people can trust our promises? Note, also, that God’s covenant is made without negotiation. It is His covenant with us and He holds the covenant to reside with who He is.

2 – A Seen Message

No one saw a rainbow prior to the flood. The rainbow is a message of God to be seen, and read about in His Word. The rainbow is proof; ALL promises God makes, He keeps. In Heaven, the rainbow surrounds His holiness.

3 – A Statement of His Word

The first rainbow was promised by God, before His Word was written to mankind. One of the first writers God used to record His Word to mankind was Moses. Moses repeatedly declared this is what the Lord says! Psalm 19:1 declares, the heavens declare the glory of God.

4 – A Statement of Character

The rainbow exposes a principle that God’s promises are true for every generation. His Words are backed by His character. What do our words say about our character?

5 – A Speaking in Color

The rainbow we see contains several colors; yet, green is the color that is significant – it cannot be missed. Green is the color of eternality – the eternality of God, and the eternality the believer has through faith in Christ. The One promising eternal life is eternal Himself; thus, His character is reflected in His Word of Promise (Hebrews 13:5-6, 15). The Word of God lives and abides forever (1 Peter 1:23). The Word became flesh and dwelt among men (John 1:14). The One who is the Word became the Door for ALL who will come (John 10:9).

6 – A State of Paradox

The rainbow is a combination of storm and sunshine, reflecting on the reality of life upon the earth. In the storm, there is an ongoing war with the old nature, the demands of the flesh; the temptation is to yield. In the sunshine, is the promise of the new nature, salvation, justification, indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and the filling and leading of the Holy Spirit. Sunshine is a picture of God’s grace. There is no  paradox in the rainbow that surrounds the throne, for it is the picture of eternal grace that is made to ALL who will come to the throne.

7 – A State that follows Judgment

The rainbow follows judgment. The believer receives right standing thorough receiving Christ as Savior. Believers have been judged for our sin, once for all, pictured in the safety of the rainbow, green in color, for ALL of eternity. The rainbow around the throne pictures God’s grace to ALL who choose to come to Him.

How is your rainbow looking today? Is it multi-colored, or is it green?

Behold, Jesus is coming soon to take you home to Heaven; His words are faithful and true (Revelation 22:6).
