Where is our Song – Psalm 40:1-5

Dr. Larry S. Lightner

I waited patiently for the Lord; He inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. –Psalm 40:1-2

James wrote, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change (1:17). We are often guilty of measuring our life based upon looking after others.

Why are they getting ahead, and not me. Why do they get what they want, or even get what I want—it is frustrating. I have to live with this. Where is my peace in living in this life?

Wait. God’s gifts for us come at the right time. If we are really waiting on God, and want the peace of God, we will never miss anything of value. When we walk with God, we discover He is always on time. That includes the “stuff” of life and the peace of God.

God is the giver (gifter) of life and actually its breath. These are gifts for every created creature. In fact, the Bible says that a tiny sparrow does not fall from the sky unnoticed by God. Also He dresses the hillside with an array of beauty and vibrant color.

We are beloved of Him, His by way of faith in Christ.

Our standing in the presence and protection of our heavenly Father is part of the peace afforded every believer. It ought to cause us to sing. Where is our song?

O Holy night, the stars are brightly shining; it is the night of the dear Savior’s birth! Long lay the world in sin and error pining, till He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices, for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices! O night divine, O night when Christ was born! O night divine, O night, O night divine! O night, O holy night, O night divine!

Life Application

While we are waiting on God, we are waiting with God. God is there all the time. His grace is powerful as you allow Him to be present in the days of your life. Think of how He has rescued you. You cannot but sing praise to Him. Tell Him today how very much you love Him for His rescue.

Let your whole life sing as a song for the peace that has come because of the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer

  1. Thank God for hearing your voice and rescuing you from the chaotic world.

Thank God for His peace that operates in your life as you draw near
