Changes-What Babies Like
Proverbs 13:19
A desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but to turn away from evil is an abomination to fools.. –Proverbs 13:19
Life is full of change, yet, there are many that do not like change. They do not like adjustments to their traditional way of life. While I was a seminary student, I had a friend that toured in music ministry as The Singing Heart. She told me about a church in Maine where the folks were at odds. Seemed they needed a new roof. The church was located by a main road on the side of a hill. They argued about a shingle color while the roof continued to leak. Their solution? The side of the roof you could see going uphill was covered in green shingles, the side seen coming down the hill was shingled with red. The townsfolk made fun of the church that could not get along—and fewer came to be part of the church.
When I was in high school, James Irwin was an astronaut. He said, you might think going to the moon was the most scientific project ever, but they literally threw us in the direction of the moon. We had to adjust our course every ten minutes and landed only inside fifty feet of the five-hundred-mile radius of our target.
When you cannot change the direction of the wind—adjust your sails. –Max Depree
We cannot become the person we need to be by remaining who we are. If we stop changing, we cease to grow.
- Poverty and disgrace come to him who ignores instruction, but whoever heeds reproof is honored. –Proverbs 13:18
- Blessed is the one whom God reproves; therefore, despise not the discipline of the Almighty, Job 5:17
- Better to be pruned to grow than cut up to burn. –John Trapp
- A bad habit never goes away by itself; it is a undo-it-yourself project. –Abigail Van Buren
- Wise people change their minds—fools never do. –Proverbs 13:19
References and quotes regarding change fill book after book. For the believer, being open to God’s change is a sign of strength to make whatever changes that God sees necessary.
Life Application
The longer we are in error, the surer we think we are in the right. We defend our faults. Errors are the proof that we have no intention to change. No intention of stopping our errors. While it seems funny – it is not – I saw a coffee mug that said: EVERYONE is ENTITLED to MY OPINION! How open do you think that owner is to change?
Everyone is in favor of progress; it is just change they do not like.
How are you with change? We should be like babies . . . they really like change. It keeps them growing and happy!
