Leaving People Better
Proverbs 11:24-25
One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered. –Proverbs 11:24-25
Solomon indicates that we are created to help others. Of course, the Scriptures are inspired of holy God, given to record for being God’s Word that it is. Those best at helping others seem always to see the better sides of life in the midst of other’s trouble, and see it as a benefit to those receiving ministry.
What we do for ourselves alone dies with us; what we do for others is timeless. What I gave, I have; what I spent, I had; what I kept, I lost. –Old Epitaph
We are deceived—greatly—in selfishness; deceived to think we count the most.
No man was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave. –Calvin Coolidge.
Coolidge called upon humanity to be giving, to invest in the success of others. When you help someone up the hill of life, you find yourself at the summit as well.
Do your want others to improve? Let them hear the good things you say about them. People will treat you via the way you view them. We need to seriously look for the good in others. Find it and fully understand the impact. People respond to you in the way you treat them—usually. Think how often in life you have smiled for two months over just a few words of praise. Look for what God is doing in someone else’s life—stir them up to respond with their gifts to others.
God often responds to you in the way you treat others. Knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord. –Ephesians 6:8
Life Application
It is amazing, the growth we get spiritually, upon the investment we make in other people’s lives. When we give out, give away what God has given us, we actually create more room for us to grow on the inside.
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning. –Proverbs 9:9
You may be the only Bible other people will ever read!
When you read the Bible, a hundred read you and me. –D. L. Moody
There is not much we do in life that means more than what we do for others. Thus, it is our duty as a believer to make it difficult for others to do wrong, and easy to do right.
Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves. –James Barrie
How many more people will have opportunity to hear the Gospel from us based on the fact that we make great effort to treat others well? If you treat a person like they are, instead of treating them as they could be, you will get less opportunities to be an ambassador for Christ.
