Advent 2021, Love
Luke 1:30-33
And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb, and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David, and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end. –Luke 1:31-33.
Sometimes people are stunned about God, wanting to know what He is all about. There are many books that depict who God is; however, a recent book Who God Is by Ben Witherington III, a meditation of His character is revealing. I recommend it to you.
The angels came to declare glory to God over His Son taking us back to His promises and the prophecies. The Bible has much to say regarding who God is. He is not some kind of Star Wars actor, He is not all about His power, He is not in a contest to be the better god—He is the Almighty God, there is no other like Him, past, present, or future.
God is Triune—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. A mystery that is difficult for us to wrap our minds around. Through the Trinity, the love of God is demonstrated. There is a great length that our great God has gone to demonstrate His love to the extent of providing a sacrifice in the Son to gain victory over sin and the grave. What a great and glorious God we have. The Son has died and was raised from the dead, victorious over death, and now sits on the throne in heaven. He is soon returning as King of kings, and Lord of lords. He will take all who believe in Him home to heaven to live eternally. Praise His Name.
The baby in the manger was no mere human; the baby is Immanuel—God with us. –Matthew 1:23. All of our pretending at Christmas time that it is just a season of celebration to gather and hand out gifts, to decorate, to sing carols that are often inaccurate, and to the party, are just excuses that avoid the real meaning of God’s love at Christmas and throughout the year.
It is at the Christmas season people pretend that all is fine, there is no struggle, there is no suffering. But there is. Some of my very favorite Christmas cards I send to those I know contain the blessing of God’s love to a world in deep, deep trouble. Some of my cards are sent through the postal service; however, with today’s technology, a greater number find their way to those we love via email through a site that produces appropriate animated cards.
The Love of God is Greater than All things.
Life Application
Do you give consideration that the world God created had His Son’s hand in the creation?
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed the heir of all things, through whom also He created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the Word of His power. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the Name He has inherited is more excellent than theirs. –Hebrews 1:1-4.
How can we neglect our God of such great love? Praise His Name!
