Fear Causes You To . . .
Psalm 27:1
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? –Psalm 27:1
What do you want to do with fear? Do you run from things that are really not after you? Or do you set aside the defenses that God places in your soul from His Word? Fear wants control, at least the one on this earth that promotes fear.
Fear knocked at my door. Faith answered, and there was no one there. –Billy Sunday
Is that not the best response to fear—faith? There is a common thought regarding faith and fear. Both are vested in the thought what you cannot see will happen. The worst of our imaginations never happen; most worries perish in anticipation.
One preacher said that 99% of what we worry about never happens. He went on to say you do not need to put up your umbrella until it rains.
What we fear about tomorrow is not even here yet. An English proverb reads Do not be afraid of the day you have never seen. Fear most often holds us back from exercising risk, knowing the truth God has placed in His Word for us. Fear is the rocking chair that just keeps going. Worrying and mumbling overplay the Word as to keep us from hearing Him.
You know I like pithy sayings. One man said Do not tell me that worry does not do any good. I know better. The things I worry about do not happen!
Many of our fears of life can be traced back to the fear of man. Reread the verse from Psalm 27:1. Also, consider In God whose Word I praise, in God I trust. I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me? –Psalm 56:4
One fact of life we need to hear is that we would worry much less about what others think of us, if we would realize how seldom they do think of us.
Life Application
It is odd. Many people believe their doubts and then doubt their beliefs. We need to feed our faith. W need to starve our doubts to death.
You and I have met people so filled with fear that they go through life running from something they do not know. That kind of fear is such a waste. It does not contribute to the present except to detour our practice of faith.
We should not fear tomorrow because God is already there. Is it so difficult to trust our unknown future days on this earth to our known God? If we would fill our minds and hearts, in just 15 minutes each morning, full of God’s Word, there will be little room for worry and fear to enter in (Howard Chandler).
